Croppie: the app for coffee growersCroppie is an application for coffee growers that predicts the harvest of a plot and gives advice to improve the quantity and quality of production. Its creation is in charge of the non-profit organization Producers Direct, and it has been co-designed by coffee growers and by the teams of the Latin American cooperatives.How does it work?To obtain a harvest prediction, the user must take photos of a set of coffee plants that the application will indicate. Artificial intelligence counts the coffee cherries on the plant, a result that is entered into a mathematical formula along with some other data about the plot that the user provides (number of trees, variety, among others). From this formula, the result (in quintals) of the amount of coffee that the producer will harvest is obtained. Thanks to this, producers will no longer need the support of an extension technician to make their prediction, but will be able to do it independently from their plot.In addition, Croppie offers advice for each of the phases of coffee production: variety selection, density management, shade management, soil analysis, fertilization, harvesting, fermentation, washing, drying, storage, and transportation. The system evaluates and assigns a score to each of the decisions that each producer makes, and also gives advice on how to improve in each of these phases to obtain better quality and quantity.If you participated in the prediction activities conducted in the year 2023, you do not need to register as we have already created an account for you.
